Museum Volunteer

Specific volunteer positions:
-
Library Assistant- aids Librarian and library staff in projects, including regular maintenance of the collection, book repair, accessioning and processing new books, cataloguing, archival work and online database work, depending on the skill level and time available of the volunteer. Training is available on a case-by-case basis as needed.

Volunteer Docents- learn talks of museum and park to give to public, staff information table and assist public with answers.

Outreach Activities-represent and promote the museum and participate in outreach activities in the community.

Office/Clerical- aid staff with filing, phone calls, and typing.
-
Activity Aide- help develop, train and run summer programs, kid activities, workshops, and events.
-
Landscaping- pruning, raking and general park maintenance.
-
Events- helps with special events that occur in the park.
-
Workshops- helps with the various museum workshops.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
-
Reports to Museum Supervisor.

Works with the local community to build programs.
-
Assists in recruitment, selection, and placement of volunteers to meet the museum’s needs.

Assists volunteer orientation, and training, to ensure consistent, high quality service to the museum.

Develops goals and objectives for the volunteer services with the Museum Supervisor and staff.
-
Maintains volunteer services and hours.
-
Maintains various pamphlets in the museum.
-
Maintains volunteer schedule and assigned duties.
Volunteer Qualifications:
-
Must be at least 16 years of age.
-
Interest in Egyptian culture and its history, with a desire to share that knowledge with others.
-
The ability to speak in public to various audiences and individuals.
-
Fluency in English is required; fluency in a second language is a plus.
-
Must be able to work with relatively high levels of background noise at times and with frequent interruptions.
-
Must be able to communicate accurately and extemporaneously with museum visitors.
-
Must be able to grasp situations, have good judgment and be able to seek good advice in order to make necessary decisions.
-
Must be able to walk for up to 4 hours with scheduled breaks throughout the day.
-
Must be able to deal with the public, solve problems in a positive manner, and communicate information in an engaging manner.

Must demonstrate a commitment to support the overall goals of the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC.

Training can include: artifact handling, workshop training, public speaking and customer service training, knowledge and training on different aspects of ancient Egypt and its people, etc.

Museum Catalog and Museum Canon for all volunteers.

Rosicrucian History and Mysteries for volunteers over 2 years.

Free admission to museum lectures and events.
Yearly fees:

Museum Membership
We want to provide the freedom to the volunteers to have as little or as much responsibility as they choose, however we want this to be a beneficial relationship for both the park and the volunteer. Beginning volunteers will have a 30-day introductory period. Unapproved absences will result in termination of volunteer agreement. A yearly commitment of 3 months, 8 hours per month minimum will be required. This would take into account those volunteers that only can volunteer for the summer and those that only come in for 1 day a month. Training usually consists of Museum Supervisor training sessions, tour guide training sessions (Supervisor approved), staff meetings, etc.

Specific volunteer positions:

Proofreader – provides proofreading and editing assistance for various print and web materials published by the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC.

Translator – translates texts from a foreign language into English and vice versa. We especially need French-English translators.

Graphic Artist – edits images, creates graphics, takes photographs, lays out publications, and fills other artistic needs of the Publications Department. Must be fluent in Adobe Creative Suite.
Volunteer Responsibilities:

Reports to Publications Manager.

Must be able to complete tasks with a quick turnaround – generally within one week.

Willing to assist Publications Department as well as other departments of Rosicrucian Park as needed.
